Why Do Your Racks Require Regular Inspections?
Regular inspections and repairs of your pallet racks are important to warehouse management. Warehouse and Chief Operating Managers might not always be fully aware of the risks that negligence can pose to personnel and operations.
As such, it is important that someone with the right expertise carries out the inspection. We have the technical expertise to inspect your facility and ensure it meets all the necessary safety requirements.
Laws and Regulations
A warehouse environment is where people and trucks often operate in shared spaces. This comes with a number of risks, some visible and some hidden. In order to minimize these risks, there are laws, regulations and standards that apply to work in a warehouse environment. Here are a few examples:
EN 15635:2008 - Steel static storage systems – Application and maintenance of storage equipment
This document contains instructions concerning the inspection of storage equipment. Section 9.4.2.3 “Expert inspections” says, “A technically competent person shall carry out inspections at intervals of not more than 12 months.”
When operating an automation facility, the entire facility must be inspected every 5 years. However, 20% of the facility must be inspected at least once every 12 months. A written report shall be submitted to the PRSES with observations and proposals for any action necessary.
Section 9.4.2.2 of EN15635 (“Visual inspections”) says “The PRSES shall ensure that inspections are made at weekly or other regular intervals based on a risk assessment. A formal written record shall be maintained.”
Personal Protective Equipment Against Falls
Personal protective equipment against falls must be inspected at least once every year by someone with sufficient expertise. At Highbay, we have the expertise required to inspect personal protective equipment against falls pursuant to EN 365.
We inspect safety harnesses, lanyards, shock-absorbing lanyards, fall arrest blocks etc.
Every item is logged in our protocol, which we can use for a follow-up the following year. We provide the inspected piece of equipment with a label so we know when to inspect it next year.
